Amy Brown

Amy Brown Amy Brown
President, National Association of Professional Creative Groomers, Editor, Creative Groomer Quarterly Magazine

Amy Brown has been working with pets since the age of 15, when she took a part-time job at a veterinary clinic. She spent over 20 years in the veterinary field as a technician before accepting an apprenticeship at a local grooming shop. At the end of her two-year apprenticeship, she opened her own business from home, focusing more on quality than quantity. Despite being located in a small Southern town, she has established a highly reputable, professional business after operating for only a few short years. Amy's business was featured in the PAWsitively Posh article from Groomer to Groomer's Nov/Dec 2009issue. In addition to running her salon, she is a founder and executive officer of the National Association of Professional Creative Groomers, the first and only organization dedicated solely to creative grooming. She also writes and edits for the NAPCG magazine and is currently developing educational material for established and aspiring creative groomers everywhere.

Subtle differences between species and even among the same breed can mean the difference between one outcome and another and can explain why the belief "what is safe for people is safe for pets" is not always true. In the second half, Amy will demonstrate the use of some of the most popular creative products in the USA. Temporary coloring products and various accessories, including the newest trend, feather extensions, will be demonstrated live on stage!

Dr. Fleck initiates the seminar-workshop with a discussion of ingredients found in contemporary pet shampoos and sprays that cleanse, exfoliate, enrich, add fragrance and add Sun Protection to the skin and hair coat. Strategies will be discussed with appropriate protocols for product ingredients that give the groomer the best opportunity to treat bad skin and hair coats. Comparisons of the pet groomer with the cosmetologist and esthetician in human skin care are discussed.

How to make bad skin and hair coats good. Treatment protocol for the groomer. Part II

Dr. Fleck attempts to define the parameters and limits of groomer treatments of the skin, hair coat, eyes, ears, mouth and the peri-anal areas in a workshop atmosphere. What does the groomer "treat" and what should be left to the veterinarian to diagnose and treat?

The other half of the groom and how to make more money!

We will review ears, mouth, nails and anal sacs then introduce the "Menu Board", what is it and how to use it in your business. With a review on coat types and product selection we will show you how to use your menu board to maximize how you check in or approach each of your clients. We will briefly talk about shave downs and how that fits into your menu board and how to be disciplined using your menu board. We will do some role playing to show how to check in and checkout clients using a menu board so you can see how you can start to pay yourself what you are worth. You deserve a RAISE!
